About "An Ordinary Pen"
Joshua Horn - Webmaster, Author - joshua@ordinarypen.com
Joshua Horn is the
creater and webmaster of "An Ordinary Pen". He is a recent graduate of the
Rochester Institute of Technology, majoring in Bioinformatics and minoring in
Creative Writing. He is currently a PhD student at the University of
Rochester, where he is studying Biophysics.
Joshua sees "An Ordinary Pen" as a wonderful opportunity to bring community,
insight, revelation and Christian scholarship together for young followers.
He has a real desire to see High School and College students grow in their
faith in the Lord, while reaching out to others across the world with His
Truth.
He focuses most of his writing on the site on cultural trends around the
world as he sees them in the media, in literature and from his own
experiences. He also writes a great deal on the rift between science and
religion in the modern mind. Recently he has spent a significant amount of
time understanding Paul's work in the early Church and what can be applied to
our own outreach in a postmodern time.
Heather Horn - Author - heather@ordinarypen.com
Heather Horn is
finishing her Bachelor's degree in Psychology at the Rochester Institute of
Technology and is looking forward to full-time work with children.
Heather loves to encourage service and outreach in those around her and hopes
that she can continue to do this by writing for "An Ordinary Pen". She hopes
to help other Christians grow in their own faith while helping to fill the
spiritual and material needs of other people.
She hopes to add insight on world needs and family to "An Ordinary Pen". She
believes Christians should be aware of how their prayers and gifts can impact
those in need worldwide. She also believes that it is important to be aware
of the issues that impact children and families in the United States today.
Shijo George - Author - shijo@ordinarypen.com
Shijo George is a
Mechanical Engineering Student at the Rochester Institute of Technology with
a minor in Sociology. He's currently in his final year and plans to work in
the automotive industry after graduation. Of course, plans never seem to work
out as hoped, so whether he's headed for grad school or a small box in the
Sahara is up to the Big Guy.
Although he doesn't know where he wants to go forth in ministry, one of his
great passions is music. Unique as an art, music is one of the only ways
people as a group can worship is unison.
A lot of his writing will focus on the love of God towards humanity but also
on the ways we, as adopted sons and daughters, show our love for Him while
He, in turn, strengthens us. His one hope is that people at large would
develop a deeper relationship with Him and through that intimacy, the world
would see and feel the kind of "agape" love it needs.
Jeremy Miranda - Author -jeremy@ordinarypen.com
Jeremy Miranda
is a senior at the Rochester Institute of Technology and a Mechanical
Engineering Technology major. He is the Co-student Outreach Coordinator for
RIT's Baptist Campus Ministries with Shijo George. He is unsure about his
plans for the future but hopes to move to one of the larger northeast cities
such as New York, Boston, or Philly after graduation.
Jeremy believes that meeting people where they are, like Christ did, is one
of the most effective ways to reach out to those whose lives have taken paths
away from the Lord. There is one thing that everyone is looking for
throughout life and that is love. True love that is pure and unconditional.
It is his vision that through his ministry on RIT's campus, "An Ordinary
Pen", and most importantly in his everyday life and relationships, he can
share the love that he has been so blessed with.
Michael Bird - Author - michael@ordinarypen.com
Michael Bird
is an alum of Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in Applied
Statistics. He currently resides in central Connecticut working full time
in the health insurance industry. He is working toward
his Associateship and Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries.
Inspired by a desire to help the poor in the cities of America,
Ordinary Pen allows Michael to reach the city of Rochester through
his old friends and God's spirit. Michael is striving to fit into
similar ministries in Hartford,
CT over the next year and see where they go.
Michael will be writing to peoples hearts often by appealing to
their wallets. He prays he can share insights on the economy, cooperation
among Christians, and sharing God's gifts
to get the best return on investment ever! The gift of life!
Annie Kwon - Graphics
Annie is a 4th year student at the Rochester
Institute of Technology. She prays that she gets accepted into the New Media Design program this year because she wants to
learn all the trades of media design and contribute to RIT's Baptist Camus Ministries as media relations officer and beyond.
She maintains a website for BCM (ritbcm.info) and makes image designs for her friends' websites including
"Ordinary Pen" because she loves to. She believes that this ministry will make a huge impact on the community
and loves to see it grow. She hopes she can help with this website to catch the
eyes of the people and let God works wonders while they read the exciting featured stuff.
History of "An Ordinary Pen"
"An Ordinary Pen" was created on November 6th, 2006 under the name "Probatio Pennae". Soon after, the name was changed to its current title and the domain www.ordinarypen.com was reserved. On August 12, 2008, the site was expanded beyond just a simple blog to the current website/blog format.
